Joe Knaapen as “Edward Minor, Door County Civil War Veteran”.

Edward S. Minor was the only Door County man ever elected to Congress. Knaapen’s program will feature Minor’s Civil War experience with the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry and his accomplishments in the Wisconsin
Assembly, State Senate and Congress. Presenter Joe Knaapen is a Sturgeon Bay native whose family owned and operated a bakery there for 70 years. He retired after 30 years as a newspaper reporter and editor, most of that at the Door County Advocate. As an avid reader, he was always interested in the U.S. Civil War.


Into the Storm

Jamie Kay Palmer, author of Into the Storm, describes her process of researching and writing her Historical novel about Leathem D. Smith fatal error in judgement in June of 1946 when sailing his Half Moon Sloop from Menominee, Michigan back to Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin.

Giz Herbst takes us down memory lane by comparing the current buildings in  Village of Egg Harbor to what the building looked liked and functioned back in the day. 


Keepers of Egg Harbor’s Story

A special community event, “Keepers of Egg Harbor’s Story: A Lifetime Achievement Celebration,. This year’s honorees are local historians, Bill Bertschinger and the late Pete LeMere, whose work has documented the history of Egg Harbor, its enterprises and its culture ensuring that the stories of the Egg Harbor are not lost to time.


Bookmobile Summer Stops

Giz Herbst discusses where the Door County Bookmobile stopped during the summer season in the years it supplied library books to both children and adults.


Eggs as Art Program

“ Eggs as Art” will include a history of decorated eggs from around the world, some antique eggs, painted, carved, ethnic styles and many more techniques and a few of her own carved egg shells. Kathy will also share her stories about the invaluable wild bird egg collection and the priceless 70 million year old dinosaur egg.


Bookmobile School Stops

Ben Olson explains which schools the Bookmobile in the 60’s stopped.
